What to Do in Your First Week After Signing Up on Binance: From Activation to Your First Trade
Don't rush into trading right after creating your Binance account. This is a day-by-day checklist for your first week: account activation, KYC, 2FA, small test transactions, and your first trade — one or two tasks a day so you don't trip any risk controls.
Right after creating your account on the Binance official site, don't rush to load up on crypto. Short answer: for your first week, follow this seven-step order — Activate → KYC → Security Setup → Small Deposit → Small Withdrawal Test → First Trade → Review — one or two tasks a day, not everything in one sitting. The main reason is that Binance applies cooldown periods and risk-control thresholds to new accounts, and moving too fast in a short window is more likely to get flagged.
Installing the official Binance App on day one is much more convenient than using the web version alone — 2FA prompts and payment notifications are instant on the app.
Seven-Day Overview
Follow this order through your first week and your new account will finish building up "trust," which makes later actions less likely to trigger risk controls.
| Day | Main Task | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Sign-up activation + anti-phishing code + install the app | 30 minutes |
| Day 2 | Complete basic KYC verification | 30 minutes |
| Day 3 | Bind 2FA + set up a withdrawal whitelist | 20 minutes |
| Day 4 | Small deposit (C2C, roughly 100-200 USD equivalent) | 20 minutes |
| Day 5 | Try a C2C sell (small test withdrawal) | 30 minutes |
| Day 6 | First spot trade | 20 minutes |
| Day 7 | Review and adjust security settings | 30 minutes |
Day 1: Account Activation
Right after registration, a Binance account is in "basic" status, and there isn't much you can do yet:
- Cannot deposit (some coins technically allow it, but it's not recommended)
- Cannot withdraw
- Cannot use C2C
- Cannot trade futures
- Can view the spot market but cannot place orders
The main things to do on day one:
Set an Anti-Phishing Code
Settings → Security → Anti-Phishing Code → a 4-20 character string. Once set, every genuine email Binance sends you will include this string in the subject or body. Phishing emails never will, so you can spot fakes at a glance.
Install the Official App
Go to the official Binance App download page and get the installer for your platform. Android users can install the APK directly; iOS users can go through the App Store (available in most regions) or the official configuration-profile method.
Take a Look Around the Main Interface
Get familiar with:
- The Assets page (left-hand tabs: Spot / Funding / Futures / Earn)
- The Trade page (Spot / Futures / Options)
- The C2C page
- The "Profile" page (this is where you'll find your UID, KYC status, and referral code)
Day 2: Complete KYC
KYC is a prerequisite for everything that follows. Without it, you can't make C2C deposits or withdraw funds.
The general KYC flow:
Step 1: Enter the KYC Section
Profile → Identity Verification → Basic Verification (Verified)
Step 2: Fill in Basic Information
- Full name (must exactly match your ID)
- Date of birth
- Nationality
- Residential address (street + city + postal code)
- ID type (national ID / passport / driver's license)
Step 3: Photograph Your ID
- Front and back (national ID / driver's license) or the information page (passport)
- Use the physical original document — photocopies aren't accepted
- For detailed photo tips, see our KYC ID photo notes
Step 4: Liveness Check
Follow the prompts to blink, open your mouth, or turn your head. Take off your glasses and turn off any beauty filters.
Step 5: Wait for Review
Usually 5-30 minutes for a result, up to 24 hours at most. Don't resubmit repeatedly while you wait.
Once KYC is approved, don't try to withdraw right away — Binance applies a 24-72 hour cooldown, and withdrawals will be blocked during that window.
Day 3: Security Setup
Bind Google Authenticator (2FA)
Settings → Security → Two-Factor Authentication → Google Authenticator.
For the detailed steps, see our 2FA setup notes. This step is strongly recommended:
- Withdrawals require 2FA
- Large transactions require 2FA
- Logins from a new location require 2FA
- Changing your password requires 2FA
If an account without 2FA has its email compromised, funds can be drained in one shot.
Write Down Your Recovery Codes
When you bind 2FA, the system gives you a 16-character recovery code. Write it down on paper — don't store it in a cloud note or your phone's photo gallery.
What the recovery code is for: resetting 2FA if you lose your phone. Without this string, your only option is a support ticket plus KYC information matching, which is a hassle.
Set Up a Withdrawal Whitelist (Optional but Recommended)
If you only transfer between a fixed set of wallets, add those addresses to your whitelist:
- Settings → Security → Withdrawal Whitelist → Enable
- Add addresses (each address takes 24 hours to activate after being added)
- Once enabled, withdrawals to non-whitelisted addresses are blocked
This step matters a lot for accounts holding larger balances.
Day 4: Small Deposit
Deposit via C2C (Recommended for Beginners)
Don't start with a large amount. We suggest making your first deposit around 100-200 USD equivalent, mainly to test the process:
Step 1: Trade → C2C → select USDT → Buy Step 2: Choose a merchant (see our C2C merchant selection notes for details) Step 3: Choose a payment method (bank card / PayPal-equivalent local options / e-wallet — pick whichever suits you) Step 4: Place the order → transfer payment to the merchant → mark it "Paid" Step 5: Wait for the merchant to release the coins (usually 2-10 minutes)
Once you receive the USDT, confirm the amount on the Assets page — as long as it matches, you're good.
We Don't Recommend Using a Bank Card the First Time
Binance's web interface has a "buy crypto with credit/debit card" entry point, but the fee is high (around 1.8% plus slippage), and cards from many restricted regions are often rejected by risk controls. C2C is the more reliable choice the first time around.
Day 5: Small Withdrawal Test
The day after depositing, do a small withdrawal test first:
Step 1: Choose a Small Amount (10-20 USDT)
Don't withdraw everything — keep a buffer balance in your account.
Step 2: Choose the TRC-20 Network
For USDT withdrawals, choose the TRC-20 network (low fees, around 1 USDT). For details, see the On-Chain category.
Step 3: Enter the Receiving Address
You can withdraw to another exchange account of your own, a personal wallet, or a friend's account. The first time, withdraw to yourself — don't send it to someone else.
Step 4: 2FA Verification
Google Authenticator code + email code + SMS code (you may need all three).
Step 5: Wait for Confirmation
TRC-20 transfers typically arrive within 1-5 minutes. If it's been more than 30 minutes with no confirmation, check the Error Manual.
Day 6: Your First Trade
Once you've tested a withdrawal, you can make your first spot trade.
Recommended First Trade: Buy BTC with USDT (Small Amount)
The process:
Step 1: Go to Spot Trading → select the BTC/USDT pair Step 2: Choose a "Market Order" (simplest for beginners) Step 3: Enter the amount to buy (e.g., 30 USDT) Step 4: Click "Buy BTC" Step 5: Check your BTC balance on the Assets page
We don't recommend placing a "limit order" or "stop-limit order" the first time — you can end up waiting a long time if it never fills.
For a detailed order-placing walkthrough, see the Spot Order category.
Stay Away from Futures
Futures (perpetual / delivery) leverage can go as high as 50-125x, and beginners get liquidated 99% of the time. Absolutely avoid futures in your first week.
Day 7: Review
Go back over everything you did in your first week and adjust the following:
Check Your Account Security Score
Settings → Security → Security Level. Binance gives you a score (1-5 stars). If you've completed the above steps, your score should be around 4 stars by now. If it isn't:
- No 2FA bound → bind it immediately
- No anti-phishing code → set one immediately
- No whitelist → decide based on your own situation
- No security questions → set them up
Review Your Login History
Settings → Security → Device Management → Login History. Check for:
- Any IP address that isn't yours
- Any logins from an unfamiliar location
- Devices that aren't yours
If you spot anything unusual, change your password immediately and revoke other device sessions.
Set Trading Limits
Settings → Security → Trading Limits. You can set:
- Maximum daily withdrawal amount
- Maximum amount per transaction
- SMS confirmation required above a certain limit
This step is important for preventing theft.
Things Not to Do in Your First Week
| Don't Do This | Reason |
|---|---|
| Large deposits (over 10,000 USD equivalent) | New accounts trigger risk controls more easily at high amounts |
| Logging in and out frequently | Triggers an "abnormal account activity" flag |
| Switching between multiple IPs | Makes your device fingerprint unstable |
| Borrowing a friend's account | One device logging into multiple accounts = risk |
| Jumping straight into futures | High probability of liquidation |
| Sending large withdrawals to unfamiliar addresses | Risk-control blocks + support investigation |
| Buying and selling back and forth with the same C2C merchant | Looks like wash trading |
Common Errors in Your First Week
| Error | Reason | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Account is in a risk-control cooldown period" | You just finished KYC within the last 24-72 hours | Wait out the cooldown |
| "Withdrawal address requires 24-hour review" | First time withdrawing to this address | Wait 24 hours |
| "Please complete basic KYC verification" | You haven't done KYC yet | Complete KYC first |
| "C2C is temporarily unavailable" | Restricted in some regions | Switch nodes |
| "Your 2FA device has not yet activated" | You bound 2FA within the last 24 hours | Wait out the cooldown |
FAQ
Q: Should I deposit all my funds in the first week? A: Absolutely not. In your first week, only deposit a small amount (200-500 USD equivalent) to get familiar with the process. Once everything runs smoothly and your security settings are in place, consider increasing the amount.
Q: Which network is safest for a first withdrawal? A: For USDT choose TRC-20, for BTC choose the BTC mainnet, for ETH choose ERC-20. All three networks are reliable, with fast confirmation and reasonable fees. See the On-Chain category for details.
Q: Should I try futures in the first week? A: Absolutely not. Futures leverage can wipe out your principal within an hour. Beginners should stick to spot trading only in the first week.
Q: How long should I wait before contacting support if KYC hasn't passed? A: Open a support ticket if you haven't gotten a result after 24 hours. KYC submitted on a weekday morning usually resolves within 30 minutes; on holidays it may take 2-3 hours.
Q: Is it normal to lose money on my first spot trade? A: Yes, that's normal. First-time market orders often run into slippage (the market order fills at a slightly worse price than expected). The point of the first trade is to confirm the process works, not to make money.
Q: Are there any first-week bonuses or promotions for beginners? A: Binance occasionally runs "new user tasks" (sign up + KYC + first trade rewards a small amount of USDT) — check the Announcements category. We don't actively promote these campaigns — if they happen, they happen.
Q: What should I do if I get flagged by risk control during my first week? A: Open a support ticket. Explain that you're a new user still learning the ropes, and attach your KYC screenshots and activity log — this usually resolves in 3-7 days. A first-time risk-control flag doesn't result in a permanent ban.
