The 12 Most Common Binance Error Codes: What They Mean and How to Fix Them
Binance error messages are often just a single line saying 'Operation failed, please try again,' with no way to tell what actually went wrong. This post organizes the 12 error codes we've run into into a lookup table.
Binance error messages are often just a single line saying "Operation failed, please try again later" — with no way to tell whether it's a network issue, a KYC problem, or bank-side risk control. We've compiled the common error codes we've run into over more than a year, organized by scenario.
Sign-up / login category
Error: CAPTCHA failure
Message: "Verification failed, please try the puzzle again"
Real cause: the slider was dragged too fast or unevenly, and got flagged as bot behavior.
Fix:
- Drag the slider slowly into the gap
- If you see "too many attempts today," wait 30 minutes and try again
- After repeated failures, switch networks (4G ↔ WiFi)
Error: Invalid email verification code
Message: "Verification code is invalid or expired"
Real cause:
- The code expired (5-minute validity window)
- An extra space got included when copying it
- You used an old code from a previous email instead of the latest one
Fix: just resend the code and use the most recent one.
Error: Account temporarily frozen
Message: "Your account has been temporarily restricted"
Real cause:
- Too many wrong password attempts (5 or more in a row)
- Login from an unfamiliar location triggered risk control
- The account was reported for suspected violations
Fix: wait 24 hours for it to unfreeze automatically; if it's still frozen after 48 hours, submit a support ticket.
KYC category
Error: Unable to recognize the ID document
Message: "Unable to verify your ID document"
Real cause: poor photo clarity, bad lighting, cropped corners, or a photo of a screen rather than the physical document.
Fix: see A Post-Mortem on Getting Our KYC ID Photo Rejected Three Times.
Error: Face verification failed
Message: "Face verification failed, please try again"
Real cause:
- Wearing glasses / a face mask / a hat
- Browser hasn't been given camera permission
- Network dropped during upload
Fix: switch devices; after 3 retries, it will be routed into manual review.
Deposit / withdrawal category
Error: Address not on whitelist
Message: "This address is not in your withdrawal whitelist"
Real cause: you've enabled "withdraw only to whitelisted addresses," but this particular address hasn't been added yet.
Fix: go to the whitelist page, add the new address, wait through the 24-hour cooldown, then withdraw again.
Error: Network congestion
Message: "Network is congested, try again later"
Real cause: on-chain gas fees have spiked (common on the ETH mainnet).
Fix:
- Wait 30 minutes to 2 hours
- Or switch to a different network (such as BEP20 / TRC20)
Error: Blocked by risk control
Message: "This withdrawal is temporarily restricted"
Real cause:
- A new account's 24-72 hour cooldown period
- A large withdrawal amount triggered risk control
- The destination address has been flagged
Fix:
- Cooldown period: wait it out
- Large amount: split into smaller withdrawals, under 50,000 USDT each
- Flagged destination: use a different address
C2C category
Error: Order timed out
Message: "Order timed out"
Real cause:
- Buyer: didn't pay within 15 minutes
- Seller: the buyer clicked "Paid" but the coins weren't released within 15 minutes
Fix: the order cancels automatically after timing out — just place a new one.
Error: Merchant temporarily offline
Message: "This merchant is currently offline"
Real cause: the merchant manually turned off their ad (taking a break, not accepting orders).
Fix: choose a different merchant. Don't wait for them to come back online — all else being equal, an established merchant is safer than a new one.
Spot trading category
Error: Insufficient balance
Message: "Insufficient balance"
Real cause (90% of the time): you're looking at your Funding account balance, but the order needs funds in your Spot account.
Fix: go to "Wallet → Transfer" and move funds from the Funding account to the Spot account.
Error: Trading pair suspended
Message: "Trading pair temporarily suspended"
Real cause:
- The coin has been delisted by Binance
- Temporary maintenance
- Extreme price action triggered a circuit breaker
Fix: check the announcements. A delisted coin can only be withdrawn during the announced grace period — after that, it's gone.
General troubleshooting approach
If you run into an error code not covered above, work through it in this order:
- Check the exact error code / error message text: copy it and search Google — Binance's official support pages likely have it
- Switch devices / browsers: rules out cache or extension issues
- Switch networks: WiFi ↔ 4G, or a different network exit point
- Wait 30 minutes and try again: many temporary risk-control flags clear automatically
- Submit a support ticket: if all of the above still doesn't work, write a ticket that includes the exact error code text plus a screenshot
How to write an effective support ticket
Many people submit a ticket that just says "the system had an error" — support genuinely can't act on that. An effective ticket should include at least:
- Your UID (shown under your avatar)
- The exact time the issue occurred (down to the minute)
- Which step you hit the error at
- The exact error code text plus a screenshot
- What you've already tried
Writing it this way cuts support's response time from 48 hours down to 6-12 hours.
When self-troubleshooting doesn't turn anything up
If an error keeps recurring and you can't find the cause, you can:
- Look for similar notes in our Error Manual category
- Check whether some setting under Security is triggering it
- Contact Binance's official support directly (bottom left "Help → Live Chat")
