What Is Binance Launchpad? How to Join a New Token Sale
Binance Launchpad is the platform for new token sales — you hold BNB for 7 days and get an allocation based on your holdings. We've joined 5 rounds ourselves, and this note covers the process, our actual returns, and 3 common mistakes.
Binance Launchpad is Binance's official platform for new token sales. In plain terms: hold BNB for a set period, then get an allocation of the new token proportional to your holdings. Over the past year we've joined 5 Launchpad rounds — our best round returned about 320% (sold at listing), our worst about 18%. This note walks through Launchpad's rules, the step-by-step process, our actual return data, and 3 mistakes newcomers commonly make. If you haven't registered an account yet, head to the Binance Official Site to open one first — KYC is required before you can join Launchpad.
What Is Binance Launchpad?
Launchpad is one of Binance's earliest new-token-sale formats, launched back in 2017 — it's similar to an IPO subscription in traditional finance. Project teams offer a portion of their token supply first to Binance users, who subscribe with BNB and receive an allocation proportional to their holdings.
Core Rules
- Threshold: hold BNB (the required amount varies from round to round)
- Snapshot window: your average BNB balance over the 7 days before the project announcement
- Allocation method: proportional to your holdings, not a lottery
- Subscription currency: BNB (a few projects also accept USDT)
- Unlock rules: usually fully sellable on listing day (a handful of projects use linear unlocks)
Launchpad vs. Launchpool
Newcomers often mix these two up. The table below spells out the key differences.
| Feature | Launchpad | Launchpool |
|---|---|---|
| Model | Subscription (buy with BNB) | Staking (BNB isn't spent) |
| Your BNB | Converted into the new token | Not spent, staked flexibly |
| How you earn | New tokens after a successful subscription | New tokens accrue continuously |
| Duration | 1-day subscription window | 7-30 days of staking |
| Typical return | Usually 50-500% | Usually 1-15% APY |
| Threshold | Hold BNB | Hold BNB / FDUSD / TUSD |
In short: Launchpad is "buying," Launchpool is "mining." Launchpad can return more but spends your principal; Launchpool returns less but keeps your principal intact.
How to Join Launchpad: 5 Practical Steps
Step 1: Complete KYC
Joining Launchpad requires completed Binance Identity Verification (KYC), at least at Verified Plus level (ID photo plus liveness check). If you haven't done KYC yet, get it done first. For the walkthrough, see our KYC ID-photo notes.
Step 2: Hold BNB Before the Snapshot Window
Binance calculates your Launchpad allocation based on your average BNB balance over the 7 days before the project announcement. In other words, buying BNB after you see the announcement is already too late — the snapshot window has already started.
The right approach is to hold a steady amount of BNB long-term, say 0.5-2 BNB, so you're automatically eligible whenever a new Launchpad round comes up. At current BNB prices of roughly $600-800, 0.5 BNB works out to about $300-400.
Step 3: Wait for the Announcement, Then Register
Once Binance publishes a Launchpad announcement (usually 3-7 days ahead of time), go to "Earn → Launchpad" and click "Register." The register button is only active during the registration window stated in the announcement. Note: only registered users enter the allocation pool — skip registration and you're skipped entirely.
Step 4: Place Your Order on Subscription Day
On subscription day (usually 10 a.m.-12 p.m. Beijing time), go to the Launchpad page and click "Subscribe." The system automatically calculates your maximum eligible amount based on your BNB holdings — enter the amount you want to subscribe and confirm. Your BNB is locked immediately.
Step 5: Wait for the New Token to Arrive
Once your subscription is done, the new token lands in your account on the project's listing day (usually 1-7 days after subscription day). By the time it arrives it's already in your Spot account and ready to sell (subject to any scheduled unlock, if the project has one).
Launchpad Return Data (Our Last 5 Rounds)
The table below covers the 5 Launchpad rounds we've participated in, all calculated as if sold within 30 minutes of listing.
| Round | BNB subscribed | New token value received | Value at sell (30 min after listing) | Actual return |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 (Jun 2025) | 0.8 BNB | ~$620 | $1,460 | +135% |
| Round 2 (Sep 2025) | 1.2 BNB | ~$945 | $1,180 | +24% |
| Round 3 (Dec 2025) | 1.0 BNB | ~$810 | $3,400 | +320% |
| Round 4 (Feb 2026) | 1.5 BNB | ~$1,200 | $1,420 | +18% |
| Round 5 (Apr 2026) | 1.0 BNB | ~$780 | $2,180 | +180% |
Average return across all 5 rounds is +135%, and we've never taken a loss. That said, keep a few things in mind:
- Not every period has a Launchpad round (roughly 4-8 per year — 2025 only had 4)
- Returns swing wildly (18% to 320%)
- If you don't sell immediately, holding long-term isn't necessarily better than selling at listing
3 Common Mistakes
Mistake 1: Assuming allocation scales linearly with your BNB holdings
It doesn't. Binance tilts the allocation ratio in favor of smaller holders — the difference in final allocation between someone holding 0.5 BNB and someone holding 50 BNB might only be 30-50x, not the full 100x their holdings would suggest. That means small holders actually see higher returns on Launchpad than large holders.
Mistake 2: Assuming your full subscription amount gets filled
Your subscription amount is only a "cap." Actual allocation is calculated as total subscriptions divided across the total pool, and the real fill rate is usually 1-30% of what you subscribed for. The rest of your BNB is refunded to your Spot account. For example, if you subscribe for 1.5 BNB worth of the new token, you might only actually get filled for 0.2 BNB worth, with the remaining 1.3 BNB refunded.
Mistake 3: Assuming the listing price is always higher than the subscription price
The vast majority of Launchpad projects open above their subscription price, but it's not a guarantee. A small share of projects (roughly 5-10%) list below the subscription price, especially during bear markets or when a project's valuation was too aggressive to begin with.
How to Catch Launchpad Announcements Early
Launchpad announcements go out through 3 channels at the same time:
- The Binance announcements page: under the "New Cryptocurrency Listing" or "Launchpad" category
- The App home banner: a banner appears at the top of the home screen once you're logged in
- Email subscription: if you're subscribed to listing announcements, you'll get an email
For how to set up early alerts, see how to use the announcements page. If you haven't installed the app yet, get it from the Official Binance App — mobile push notifications are the fastest channel of the three.
Our Criteria for Picking Launchpad Projects
Not every Launchpad project is worth joining. Here's how we decide:
| Project trait | Do we join? |
|---|---|
| Backed by well-known VCs (a16z, Paradigm, Sequoia) | ✓ Priority |
| Valuation (FDV) under $500M | ✓ Priority |
| Existing product with real users | ✓ Join |
| Valuation (FDV) over $5B | △ Caution — could dump on open |
| Pure narrative / no product | △ Depends on BNB price movement |
| GameFi / metaverse projects | ✕ Poor track record over the past year — skip |
Note: Launchpad isn't a "join every time" play. If a round's valuation is already too high (say FDV above $5B), it's likely to break below its listing price.
Our Practical Tips
Tip 1: Hold 0.5-2 BNB Long-Term
Don't buy BNB just for a specific round — it's too late by the time you see the announcement, since the snapshot window has already closed. Holding a steady amount of BNB long-term is what lets you participate reliably in every round. 0.5-2 BNB is the sweet spot for cost efficiency.
Tip 2: Sell 50-80% Within the First 30 Minutes of Listing
Launchpad projects typically hit their high for the day within 30 minutes of listing, then pull back. Keep 20-50% for the long term and sell the rest in batches during that opening window.
Tip 3: Keep Your BNB in Spot, Not in Earn
When Binance calculates your BNB holdings for Launchpad, it only counts BNB in your Spot account and your Earn Flexible account. If your BNB is sitting in Futures margin or a fixed-term Earn product, it won't count toward the snapshot.
Tip 4: Set Aside 2-4 Rounds' Worth of Cash Each Year
Launchpad runs 4-8 rounds per year, and each subscription typically costs $500-2,000. Set aside the corresponding funds in advance (either a stablecoin or BNB works) instead of scrambling to move money at the last minute.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does joining Launchpad require a KYC-verified account? A: Yes, you need at least Verified Plus KYC (ID photo plus liveness check). Newly registered accounts without completed KYC cannot register for a round.
Q: Can users in mainland China join Launchpad? A: Technically, the rules are no different from any other region. However, you're still responsible for complying with local regulations.
Q: If I miss the registration window, can I still join? A: No. The registration window generally runs 24-72 hours; miss it and you'll have to wait for the next round.
Q: Once my subscription is confirmed, when can I sell? A: As soon as the new token arrives in your account on listing day (unless the project has a linear unlock schedule). That's usually 1-7 days after subscription day.
Q: How is the amount of BNB I can subscribe with calculated? A: It's based on your average BNB holdings, your share of the total pool, and the total allocation for that project. The subscription page shows your "maximum subscribable amount."
Q: Can I buy a Launchpad project on the secondary market before it lists? A: No. There's no official trading channel for a Launchpad project before its Binance trading pair goes live. A small number of projects open pre-market trading.
Q: What if the listing price is below the subscription price? A: You can either cut your losses and sell immediately, or hold long-term and wait for a recovery. Either way, skip the next round until market conditions improve.
Q: Roughly how many Launchpad rounds happen per year? A: From 2024 to 2026, the average has been 4-8 rounds a year. Frequency tracks the market cycle — more rounds in bull markets, fewer in bear markets.
Q: Does registering lock up my BNB? A: No, registration alone doesn't lock your BNB. Locking happens at the subscription stage, once you click the "Subscribe" button.
