How Does a Binance SWIFT Wire Transfer Deposit Work? The Standard Process for Large Amounts

A Binance SWIFT wire transfer deposit is suited for amounts above 10,000 USD. This article records our full process wiring 50,000 USD into Binance: from getting the receiving account details to funds landing in 1.5 business days, including how to fill in the English payment purpose, how much intermediary banks deduct, and what to do if the transfer gets returned.

Open the deposit page on the Binance Official Site, and the third option is "Bank Transfer," which includes SEPA (direct Eurozone transfers), SWIFT (global), and Faster Payments (UK). For mainland China users, the option that works is SWIFT. This time we recorded the full process of wiring 50,000 USD into Binance — from filling out the form at an ICBC branch counter to the USDT landing — a total of 1.5 business days.

Who wire transfer suits: anyone sending a single amount above 10,000 USD who isn't in a rush for same-day deposit and wants the lowest possible fee rate. Under 10,000 USD, C2C is cheaper; above 100,000 USD, what you save on fees with a wire transfer can even cover the cost of a couple of flights.

Bottom line up front: total cost is roughly 60-100 USD (covering the sending bank, intermediary bank, and receiving bank across three layers), it takes 1-3 business days to land, and the process is complex but reliable.

Step 1: Get the Receiving Account Details From Binance

Log in to the Official Binance App → Wallet → Deposit → select "Bank Transfer (SWIFT)" → choose currency USD (EUR/GBP/AUD are also supported) → the system pops up a receiving-details page.

The receiving details generally include these fields (what you see may vary slightly, since Binance holds accounts at multiple partner banks):

Beneficiary Name: BAM Trading Services Inc. (or Binance Holdings Limited, etc.)
Beneficiary Address: a California, US address / a Cayman Islands address, etc.
Beneficiary Account Number: 8800XXXXXXXXX
Beneficiary Bank Name: Signature Bank / Silvergate Bank / Bank Frick / Customers Bank
Bank Address: 565 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10017
SWIFT Code (BIC): SIGNUS33 / SILGUS66, etc.
Routing Number (ABA): 026013576 (if it's a US domestic bank)
Reference / Memo: your Binance UID or the reference code Binance's system generates for you

Important: the Reference field must be filled in — this is how Binance matches the incoming payment to your account. If you forget it, the funds will land in an "unclaimed" queue once they arrive, and you'll need to file a support ticket and provide your SWIFT proof of payment to recover it, which takes 3-7 business days.

Screenshot and save this page (a phone screenshot plus emailing yourself a copy) so you can cross-check it at the bank counter.

Step 2: Go to the Bank Counter (Online Banking Also Works)

Mainland Chinese banks offer 3 channels for outbound wire transfers:

Channel Minimum Amount Fee Notes
Counter service No minimum 100-300 CNY Most reliable, fields can be corrected on the spot
Online banking Some banks require 1,000 USD minimum 80-200 CNY Supported by CMB, ICBC, BOC
Mobile banking Some banks require 5,000 USD minimum 80-200 CNY Available through the CMB app, BOC app

For your first large wire transfer, we recommend going to the counter. The teller will double-check every field and fix errors on the spot; if you make a mistake in online banking, you can only cancel and resubmit, and cancellation fees run 100-200 CNY.

What to bring to the counter:

  • Your ID card
  • A printed copy of the receiving account details (a clear A4 printout is fine)
  • Proof of source of funds (some banks like ICBC and BOC may require this for amounts above 50,000 USD): a payslip, tax statement, or stock sale confirmation all work
  • Your phone (to receive the OTP text message)

Step 3: Fill In the Key Fields on the Application Form

On the bank's "Outbound Remittance Application," getting any of these fields wrong will cause the transfer to be returned:

Beneficiary Name: copy and paste exactly what Binance gave you — don't abbreviate. "BAM Trading Services Inc." must include the full "Inc.", and "Binance Holdings Limited" must include the full "Limited".

Beneficiary Account Number: a long string of digits starting with 8800. The teller may use OCR to scan it — we recommend watching the screen and double-checking every digit.

SWIFT Code: an 8 or 11-character alphanumeric string. Both SIGNUS33XXX (11 characters) and SIGNUS33 (8 characters) are valid.

Reference / Remittance Information: enter the Memo code Binance gave you — this field is the one tellers most often overlook, so make sure you explicitly tell the teller "this field must be filled in."

Purpose of Payment: this is the most critical part.

Recommended: Investment / Personal Savings / Family Support
Avoid: Cryptocurrency / Crypto / Binance / Bitcoin / Trading

Getting this wrong causes problems on two fronts — first, China's foreign exchange rules restrict outbound transfers for cryptocurrency, so the teller may refuse outright; second, if Binance's receiving bank (such as Signature Bank) spots the word "Crypto" in its compliance review, it may send the transfer back. "Investment" has the highest approval rate of any wording we've tested.

Step 4: Pay and Wait for the Funds to Land

Once submitted, the counter deducts the funds (CNY converted to USD at that day's counter rate) and prints a SWIFT confirmation (the MT103 message receipt), which includes an 18-character SWIFT reference number (UETR) — keep this safe.

Arrival times:

Route Business Days
Bank of China → Signature Bank (direct) 0.5-1 business day
CMB/ICBC → Signature Bank (1 intermediary hop) 1-2 business days
ABC/Postal Savings Bank → Signature Bank (2-3 intermediary hops) 2-3 business days

This time we went through ICBC → CITIC Bank Hong Kong → Signature Bank, landing in 1.5 business days (submitted Monday at 4pm, showed up in Binance's system Wednesday at 10am).

How Much Do Intermediary Banks Actually Deduct

The least predictable cost in a wire transfer is what the intermediary banks skim off. This time our 50,000 USD landed as 49,983 USD, meaning the intermediary bank deducted a total of 17 USD. Add ICBC's outbound transfer fee of 200 CNY (about 28 USD), and total cost came to about 45 USD, a 0.09% fee rate.

A reference table for how much different sending banks' intermediary chains typically deduct:

Sending Bank Average Intermediary Deduction Total Cost (50,000 USD)
Bank of China 5-12 USD 35-50 USD
China Merchants Bank 8-15 USD 40-55 USD
ICBC 12-20 USD 45-60 USD
China Construction Bank 15-25 USD 50-70 USD
Agricultural Bank of China 18-30 USD 55-80 USD

Bottom line: Bank of China is the cheapest, because it has its own correspondent bank in the US (Bank of China's New York branch), so it doesn't need to pass through additional intermediary banks. If you wire transfer frequently, it's worth opening a foreign currency account with Bank of China.

Common Reasons for a Returned Transfer, and How to Handle It

A returned wire transfer is a real risk — in fact, a separate small test transfer of ours this time did get returned. There are 5 main causes:

Cause 1: Mismatched beneficiary name — for example, a teller typed "Inc." as "INC" (dropping the period). Signature Bank's compliance system sometimes does an exact-match check.

Cause 2: Sensitive payment purpose — as mentioned above, writing "Cryptocurrency" gets it returned.

Cause 3: Intermediary bank sanctions screening — in some cases an intermediary bank's anti-money-laundering screening flags a keyword at the receiving bank, and it can take 10-30 business days to get the funds back.

Cause 4: Issue on Binance's end — insufficient KYC level, or a frozen account. In this case the funds are returned along the original route.

Cause 5: Insufficient bank quota — the individual annual foreign exchange purchase quota is 50,000 USD equivalent. If you've already used it up that year, the counter will refuse the transfer outright.

What to do after a returned transfer:

  1. On the 3rd-5th business day, your banking app will show a "foreign exchange remittance returned" notice
  2. Bring your ID card and SWIFT confirmation to the counter to process the "returned funds deposit"
  3. The funds are returned to your foreign currency account in their original currency (USD)
  4. The intermediary bank fees deducted during this round trip, 30-80 USD, are not refunded

5 Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. The beneficiary address can't be a Chinese address — it must be the overseas address Binance gave you (US/Cayman/Gibraltar). Tellers sometimes ask "should the address be localized?" — the answer is no.

  2. The currency must match what Binance provided — if you got a USD receiving account, send USD; if EUR, send EUR. Don't send CNH to a USD account — it will get force-converted, and you'll lose 0.3-0.5% in the process.

  3. Test with 1,000 USD before your first large transfer — confirm it lands before sending the full amount. This time we tested with 1,000 first with no issues, then sent the full 50,000.

  4. Don't send right before a holiday — a wire sent Friday afternoon can get delayed until the following Monday or later, because US time zones and bank holidays overlap.

  5. Keep your SWIFT confirmation for at least 90 days — if Binance doesn't match the incoming payment, you'll need this document to prove you actually sent the transfer.

Wire Transfer vs. Other Deposit Methods (50,000 USD Scenario)

Comparing wire transfer against other methods side by side:

Method Total Cost for 50,000 USD Arrival Time Operational Complexity
SWIFT wire transfer 35-80 USD (0.07%-0.16%) 1-3 business days High
C2C (split into 7 orders) About 250 USD (0.5% spread) 5-7 hours Medium
Credit card (split into 25 orders) 1,500-1,750 USD (3-3.5%) 1 hour Low
On-chain USDT TRC20 Under 1 USD 5 minutes Low

If you already have USDT on hand, on-chain transfer beats every other method by far. If all you have is CNY and a bank account, wire transfer is the most cost-effective option at this 50,000 USD scale.

FAQ

Q: What KYC level do I need for a wire transfer? A: You need intermediate KYC (ID card + liveness check) plus fiat deposit KYC (some users also need to supply a "proof of source of funds," such as a payslip or a stock settlement document). Before opening a wire transfer channel, confirm your level is sufficient under the KYC Lab category.

Q: Can I wire transfer Chinese yuan (CNH) to Binance? A: No, not directly. Binance doesn't have a mainland CNY receiving account. Even if you have an offshore CNH account in Hong Kong, Binance's partner banks don't accept offshore yuan. A wire transfer must first be converted into USD/EUR/GBP.

Q: Is there a difference between mobile banking and the counter for wire transfers? A: Yes. At the counter, fields can be corrected on the spot, which is safer; in mobile banking, an error can only be fixed by canceling and resubmitting, which costs 100-200 CNY. But mobile banking fees are often 30-50 CNY lower. We strongly recommend the counter for your first transfer.

Q: How is the annual 50,000 USD outbound remittance limit calculated? A: It's calculated cumulatively over the calendar year (January 1 - December 31), capped at 50,000 USD equivalent. This includes all foreign exchange outflows (travel currency purchases, study abroad, investment). Exceeding it requires proof of source of funds and intended use.

Q: Can I withdraw immediately after a wire transfer deposit lands? A: Wire transfer funds have a 5-15 business day fiat deposit lock period — you can trade spot, but you can't withdraw to an external address or bank card. This is Binance's standard risk control for fiat deposits. If you want to withdraw right away, use C2C instead.

Q: How long does it take to see a returned transfer's funds? A: From Signature Bank returning it to Bank of China/CMB receiving it back, it generally takes 3-10 business days. If it triggers anti-money-laundering review, it can take 1-3 months. This is exactly why we keep emphasizing that "every field must match exactly."

A wire transfer can feel nerve-wracking the first time you do it (given the amounts involved), but as long as the fields are filled in correctly, the payment purpose is "Investment," and the Reference field carries your UID, it normally lands in 1.5 business days. If you haven't started this process yet, we recommend first completing your KYC upgrade on the Binance Official Site, then heading to your bank to set up the wire transfer.
