Is Binance Verified Plus Worth Doing? When's the Right Time
How much does Binance's basic Verified tier differ from Verified Plus, and should you upgrade? This note compares withdrawal limits, Launchpad access, and futures permissions across three dimensions, plus a checklist for deciding whether to upgrade.
After finishing basic KYC, a "Upgrade to Verified Plus" entry appears in your Binance account. Direct answer: if your daily trading volume is under 50,000 USDT, basic verification is enough — you don't need to upgrade. If you plan to do Launchpad, withdraw more than 100,000 USDT/day, or use institutional-grade wealth products, you must upgrade to Plus. If you're planning to close your account soon, don't upgrade — it leaves too much extra data on file. Verified Plus mainly unlocks higher limits; its feature expansion isn't as "advanced" as the name suggests.
Upgrading is more convenient on the Binance Official Site web version (you'll need to upload PDF files). On mobile you'd use the Official Binance App to photograph clear documents, but file uploads there aren't as smooth as on the web.

One-Line Summary
- Just trading small amounts: basic verification is enough — don't bother with Plus
- Chasing new coins on Launchpad: basic verification covers most cases, but some high-demand IDOs require Plus
- Holding funds over 100,000 USDT long-term: we recommend upgrading to Plus
- Doing large futures or options positions: Plus is required
- Institutional / corporate users: apply directly for an institutional account instead of Plus
Documents Needed for Verified Plus
Upgrading requires submitting two additional documents beyond basic verification.
Document 1: A Second ID (Optional)
If you used a national ID card for basic verification, the upgrade may ask you to submit a passport or driver's license as well (cross-verification with multiple documents). In some cases this isn't required — it depends on your region's specific policy.
Document 2: Proof of Address (Mandatory)
Issued within the last 90 days:
- Water / electricity / gas bill
- Bank statement (credit card / debit card)
- Lease agreement
- Government document (such as a tax certificate or residence permit)
- Mobile phone bill (accepted in some regions)
Not accepted:
- Shipping/courier receipts
- Handwritten proof from a friend you're staying with
- Property deed (some regions accept a new property deed)
- Screenshots or unofficial downloaded versions
For details, see our note on editing your KYC address.
Document 3: Proof of Source of Funds (Some Regions / Large Amounts)
If you plan to trade very large amounts (over 1,000,000 USDT), you may be asked for:
- Employment verification / salary statements
- Company financial statements (if you're a business owner)
- A statement explaining the source of investment funds
For most ordinary individual users, this usually isn't required.
Upgrade Process
Step 1: Go to the Verified Plus Page
Profile → Identification → "Upgrade to Verified Plus" button
Step 2: Read the Upgrade Instructions
The page will show:
- Features unlocked after upgrading
- The list of required documents
- The approximate processing time
Step 3: Upload Proof of Address
Supported formats: JPG / PNG / PDF File size: under 10MB Requirements:
- The document must be clear and legible
- The full page must be visible (don't crop it)
- The bill date, account holder name, and address must be shown
- The account holder name must match your KYC name exactly (even one character off will fail)
Step 4: Fill In Additional Information
- Place of birth (if not previously provided)
- Occupation
- Employer name (optional)
- Main source of funds (salary / investment / business / inheritance, etc.)
Step 5: Submit
After submitting, the status changes to "Verified Plus Under Review."
Step 6: Wait for Review
| Document quality | Average review time |
|---|---|
| Complete and clear documents | 1-3 days |
| Complete but needs verification | 3-7 days |
| Needs additional documents | 7-15 days |
| Peak periods | Add 50% to the time |
When Not to Upgrade
Cases where we recommend not upgrading to Plus:
Case 1: Daily Trading Volume Under 50,000 USDT
The basic verification limits are already enough — upgrading serves no purpose.
Case 2: A Temporary Account (Using It for Just 1-3 Months)
The more documents you submit, the more data stays on file. If you're only using the account short-term, don't submit extra documents.
Case 3: You Can't Get Proof of Address
If you're staying at a friend's place, in a temporary rental, or have never had a water/electricity bill in your name, forcing the upgrade tends to fail and leaves behind an "appeal record."
Case 4: Your Identity Already Has a Risk-Control Record on Another Platform
If you've had an account banned on another exchange under the same identity, don't proactively upgrade to Binance Plus (it can trigger a risk-control review).
Case 5: You're Not Comfortable Disclosing More Personal Information
The documents submitted for Verified Plus are retained long-term by Binance (a financial regulatory requirement). If that concerns you, basic verification is enough — don't upgrade.
Cases Where You Definitely Should Upgrade
| Must-upgrade scenario | Reason |
|---|---|
| Daily trading needs exceed 50,000 USDT | Basic tier caps out |
| Want to trade large futures positions (100x+ leverage) | Basic verification caps at 50x |
| Participating in large Binance Launchpad subscriptions | Some projects require Plus |
| Large OTC trades (over 100,000 USDT) | Plus required |
| Institutional / corporate users | Though an institutional account is recommended instead |
| Long-term fund storage over 500,000 USDT | For security policy / VIP support |
Can You Downgrade After Upgrading
No. Verified Plus is a one-way upgrade — once approved, you're permanently on Plus.
If you want to "go back to basic," the only option is closing your account and reopening a new one, but:
- There's a 30-day cooldown period
- All funds must be withdrawn first
- The same ID can only redo KYC after 30 days
- Redoing KYC will only give you basic verification again — you can't skip straight to Plus
Common Reasons for Upgrade Rejection
We compiled the reasons Plus reviews get rejected:
| Rejection reason | Frequency | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Proof of address name doesn't match KYC name | High | Submit a lease agreement instead |
| Proof of address is older than 90 days | High | Wait for a new bill at month's end |
| Document isn't clear (blurry photo) | Medium | Retake the photo / use the original PDF |
| Document is cropped | Medium | Show the full page |
| Some information is blacked out | Medium | Don't redact anything (except card numbers / security codes) |
| Place of residence doesn't match the country on your basic KYC | High | Go through the address change process |
| Employer information looks suspicious (shell company) | Low | Submit the company's business license |
What It's Actually Like After Getting Plus
Changes we noticed in real use after upgrading:
Change 1: Withdrawals No Longer Get Stuck
Before upgrading, withdrawing 5,000 USDT would occasionally get stuck requiring triple verification — 2FA plus email plus SMS. After upgrading it's just 2FA plus SMS, and it feels much smoother.
Change 2: Faster Support Response
Ticket response time dropped from 6-8 hours to 2-3 hours.
Change 3: Maximum Futures Leverage Unlocked
But we don't recommend using leverage above 100x. Even the basic 50x is enough to get liquidated.
Change 4: Some Wealth Products Appear
The wealth management page starts showing products like "institutional recurring buys" and "structured products" that basic verification can't see.
Things That Don't Change
- Spot trading fee rates stay the same (VIP tier is based on trading volume, not KYC tier)
- No special airdrops or perks (Plus isn't VIP)
- Support still won't proactively add you on WeChat (anyone who does is a scammer)
Timing Recommendation
When's the best time to upgrade?
| Timing | Suitable? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Day one of registration | Not suitable | Your documents aren't ready yet |
| First week after registration | Not suitable | See our first-week checklist |
| After your first stable month | OK | You're already familiar with the platform |
| One month before you plan to go large | Best | Leaves enough buffer for review |
| Only upgrading once you're already stuck at a limit | Not suitable | Reviews may be slow when it's urgent |
Best timing: after you've used your account for over a month, upgrade one month ahead of when you plan to start doing large transactions.
FAQ
Q: Can basic verification use all of Binance's features? A: About 90% of them. The main differences are in limit caps and some high-barrier products (institutional wealth management, large-block OTC). For ordinary users, spot / C2C / futures / withdrawals are all fine with basic verification.
Q: Does upgrading to Plus cost anything? A: No. All of Binance's KYC services are free. Anything asking you to "pay to speed up KYC" is a scam.
Q: Does Plus need to be re-verified every year? A: No. Once approved, Plus is valid permanently. But if your address changes (especially across countries), you still need to go through the address change process, which may require submitting new proof of address.
Q: Can I skip basic verification and go straight to Plus? A: No. You must complete basic verification before you can upgrade to Plus.
Q: What actions can still trigger risk control after getting Plus? A: Unusually large transactions, unusual counterparties, on-chain addresses on a sanctions list, or unclear source of funds — none of these are saved by having Plus. Plus unlocks higher limits, it does not unlock exemption from risk control.
Q: Could Plus documents get leaked? A: Binance retains documents according to financial regulatory standards and has a data-breach compensation mechanism. But the safest approach is to not submit anything that isn't required (for example, don't proactively submit documents that weren't requested just to try to speed up the Plus upgrade).
Q: What if I want to withdraw my Plus application after submitting it? A: While under review: you can click "Withdraw Application" on the identification page. After approval: it cannot be withdrawn — Plus is permanent.
Q: Can Plus users open an API for institutional-grade quant trading? A: API access has nothing to do with Plus. Any user who has passed KYC can open an API. Institutional quant trading usually requires applying separately for an "institutional API package" or opening an institutional account directly.
